The focus is on Jesus!

Who should we blame?

Was it an "Act of God"?

You may need to read the whole book, to get the whole story, but it can be seen by the following excerpt from the Bible's book of Job that the Devil has been given (at least to some extent) control over the weather. It was the devil that caused a great wind to blow down the house that Job's children were in killing them and he even caused fire to come out of the sky.  All of this was blamed on God even though it can be seen from what is said below that all of this was actually caused by the enemy of God.

It can also be seen that the Devil is able to use evil humans to do whatever he wants, notice verses 15 & 17.  (This is how the Devil killed God's Son, Jesus, by using evil men to do what it was that he wanted to do.)

From Job 1:

1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath [is] in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

1:13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters [were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

1:14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

1:15 And the Sabeans fell [upon them], and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

1:16 While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

1:17 While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

1:18 While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters [were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

1:19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Then, because Job remained faithful to God, Satan claimed that if Job himself could be touched he would blame God.  So God allowed Job to come under the partal control of Satan.  You can read the whole story in Job 2, but here are a few verses that show that at times Satan (the Devil) can harm even those who totally trust God.

From Job 2:

Satan left the Lord’s presence and struck Job with painful boils from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.
Job took a piece of broken pottery to scratch himself as he sat in the ashes.

His wife asked him, “Are you still holding on to your principles? Curse God and die!”

10 He said to her, “You’re talking like a godless fool. We accept the good that God gives us. Shouldn’t we also accept the bad?”

Through all this Job’s lips did not utter one sinful word.

We can also see that even though Job's problems were caused by Satan, Job actually believed them to be from God, much like what most people believe today.  They believe that it is only God who sends tornados, hurricanes, fires, hail, and earthquakes, but that is not always the case.  God wants us to be happy and healthy and so if we trust Him regardless of what comes our way eventually God will place a hedge about us so that NOTHING can ever hurt us again.  Trust Him!  He LOVES you.
